The Mayan calendar has become controversial lately…but by the end of this article you will understand why it has created such a buzz. Hint: it DOES have astrological significance.

Since ancient times, the solstice days of June 21 and December 21 have been considered VERY powerful days to meditate and connect with your soul, because the veil between the ego and soul is said to lift a little. It’s a powerful time to connect with your guides on the other side, tune in to your intuition, affirm the success of your next step in life, and chat with your loved ones who have passed over. Practicing gratitude has great results, too.

The ancient Mayans figured out that in 2012, the December solstice will be even MORE powerful than usual, in terms of human evolution (meaning YOUR evolution). Why will it be so powerful? Because the solstice sun and planet Earth will align EXACTLY with the equator of the Milky Way galaxy.

Modern scholars of the Mayans call this the Galactic Alignment. It’s significant because it’s a very rare event – it happens only ONCE every 26,000 years or so. It is also significant to the Mayans because they consider the centre of the galaxy to be a potent source of inspiration, beauty and Divine Love. They associate the Galactic Centre with the soul of the entire galaxy – a centre of spiritual guidance for all of humanity. They called it the Galactic Butterfly. How beautiful! AFter all, celebrating your inner beauty is one way to get aligned with your soul FAST!

So why is this Galalctic Alignment happening NOW? Because of a natural phenomenon called Precession of the Equinoxes. You may already get how this works, but if you don’t, here’s a quick explanation.

The Galactic Alignment is caused by precession

The Earth spins around a central axis and this axis points up into the sky like an arrow towards a certain point in the Zodiac. But the Earth’s axis wobbles very slowly in a circle, which means the arrow-head traces a circle in the sky that moves backwards around the Zodiac signs. This is called “precession”, and one slow precessional cycle around the 12 Zodiac signs takes 26,000 years approximately. Western astrologers know about this cycle too – we call it the Great Year.

Due to precession, the position of the sun against the background of the Zodiac stars (which do NOT move) on any given day of the year appears to change slightly on any given day from one year to the next (including the day of the December solstice). To be precise, the solstice sun moves 1° around the Zodiac wheel every 71.5 years. And on December 21, 2012, it will be positioned precisely in front of 6° Sagittarius…which points directly to the galactic equator.

To sum up: this extremely rare alignment of the December solstice sun, the Earth and the galactic equator was predicted by the ancient Mayans and is called the Galactic Alignment. It was re-introduced to us by Jose Arguelles (Princeton University), John Major Jenkins and other modern-day scholars of the ancient Mayan civilization.

End of the Mayan Calendar

The ancient Mayans used a number of calendars, but they decided that December 21, 2012 should mark the end of their Long Count Calendar, probably because of this extremely rare galactic alignment.

But of course, the end of one cycle is the beginning of a new cycle. So please, let’s forget all the gloom-and-doom prophecies about the “end of the world”. Let’s get grooving with the potential for a massive expansion of human consciousness – for this is what the Mayans predicted.

What an amazing time to be alive!

Now let’s look at the Mayan Cycles of Creation

In Mayan mythology, humanity is currently being governed by a character named Seven Macaw or “self-serving egotism”. But right now, at this auspicious time of the galactic alignment, Seven Macaw can potentially be transformed into, or placed back into right relationship with, the benevolent god called One Hunahpu, meaning True Nature, or Original Unity Consciousness.

How does this transformation take place in the myth? By releasing yourself from the illusion that you are separate. This creates slavery to the ego. The ego that feels separate basically feels fear. Everything, even life itself, and other people, are seen as a threat. And what do we do when we feel threatened? Hide. Or fight. This feeling of being separate is an illusion, says the Mayan myth. The truth is we are all equal. We are all brothers and sisters. We are all one. We all deserve compassion and love – not to mention wealth, good health and joy!

Freeing ourselves from the grip of the self-serving ego (preferably all at the same time all around the world! will usher in a whole new world. And thus a new cycle begins, just as the Mayans predicted.

Okay, that’s it in a nutshell. You are now an expert on the Galactic Alignment, which has led to all the hype about 2012.

But wait; there’s one more thing you need to understand, which is that…

..the Galactic Alignment takes 28 years to complete!

The exact centre of our galaxy has been re-calculated with greater precision by modern astronomers – and it appears the ancient Mayan astrologers were 15 years out when they calculated that the Galactic Alignment would arrive in 2012. In fact, the Galactic Alignment occurred on the December solstice 1997.

Holy ram’s horns! Have we MISSED THE MOST IMPORTANT ASTROLGOICAL EVENT OF 25,740 YEARS???

NO WE HAVEN’T!!!

The GOOD news is that the December solstice sun will align with the Galactic Equator once a year for 28 years in a row, from the years 1992 through to 2020. This is now called Era 2012.

So no, you haven’t missed it. And no, the world won’t come crashing down on December 21, 2012. Hopefully, the only thing to come crashing down will be any remaining obsession we have with feeling separate, alone and scared! The wonderful truth is that we still have 10 years left to take advantage of this celestial gateway to a whole new way of living.

And here’s a lovely bit of synchronicity between Mayan astrology and western astrology…

The Aquarian Age is synchronized with the end of the Mayan calendar

In western astrology, the Aquarian Age is about to begin. This is because the axis of the Earth is about to start pointing towards Aquarius. This “new age” starts officially in 2117AD, (some astrologers say even earlier), but unofficially it begins as soon as you start allowing your soul to guide your life.

So the beginning point of the Aquarian Age occurs at the same time as the end of the Mayan calendar. Different astrological systems; same predictions. How’s that for synchronicity?!

Oh, and here’s another fascinating alignment…

The Aquarian Age AND the Galactic Alignment synchronize with the Christian story of Jesus Christ.

According to legend, Jesus was born on December 21. Yes, on the December solstice! And on the very day that now brings the Galactic Alignment into view! Hmmm…looks like another synchronicity to me.

I will write more about sun gods such as the Christ, Maitreya, Krishna, Quetzalcoatl, et al, another time. In the meantime, may your heart be full of joy and may your faith be strong.

Share your love around…and around and around.

which will make this Star a Flaming Sun of Freedom…”
